Boston Eye Physicians & Surgeons – Dr. Gorn
Dr. Robert A. Gorn graduated from Harvard College with honors in biochemical sciences. He was a Merit Scholar at New York University Medical School and served as a rotating intern at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. After completing his internship, Dr. Gorn spent three years performing research in retinal electrophysiology. His published research findings concerning light damage to retinal cells is a work referred to frequently by others.
Following a residency in ophthalmology at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Dr. Gorn entered general ophthalmic practice in Brookline in 1971. He has served as President of the eye staff at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, and has directed many cataract surgery courses at this institution. Dr. Gorn was influential in introducing extracapsular cataract surgery and phacoemulsification cataract surgery in Boston in 1979, and he has taught many current cataract surgeons the fine art of cataract surgery.
Dr. Gorn is also active in the teaching program at the Harvard Medical School. He organized and taught the course for operating room nurses on assisting in cataract surgery. Dr. Gorn is currently available to perform general eye exams and to provide consultation in general ophthalmic problems. He has retired from performing cataract surgery, but continues to perform laser and minor eyelid surgery procedures.
